A mountain wedding with personality from the very beginning

Their day took place at the Upper Ranch in Larkspur, Colorado, beginning with an outdoor ceremony at Trey’s Vista surrounded by mountain views. From there, guests moved into cocktail hour in the Spruce Room and outside terrace before heading into the Ponderosa Room for a reception that quickly turned into a packed dance floor.

Guiding the night was Kiersten from Privé Events, who did an exceptional job communicating leading up to the event and kept everything flowing smoothly throughout the evening.

We also could not have asked for a better media team capturing photo and video throughout the day. Bri Poehler Media did a fantastic job documenting the energy, emotion, and personality of the celebration while working seamlessly behind the scenes. Having a team like that makes such a difference, not only in preserving the memories, but in helping the day feel effortless for the couple in the moment.

Intentional music from ceremony to last song

For the ceremony, they wanted string covers of pop songs. Rather than throwing together a random playlist, we built it with intention and tied in songs that mattered throughout the day.

One of the best examples was All the Small Things by blink-182, which was also their final song of the night. We found a Vitamin String Quartet version and played it while they were lining up for the ceremony so they might recognize it, feel more excited, and hopefully take some of the edge off before walking in.

Cocktail hour with classic rock, Jersey energy, and mountain vibes

Cocktail hour reflected both the couple and their families. There was classic rock like Steely Dan and the Eagles, some Springsteen for the many Jersey guests, and a mix of what we like to call mountain music — artists like Caamp, Harbour, and BORNS.

It made for a cocktail hour that felt fun, familiar, and full of personality, then carried naturally into dinner with a slightly more low-key version of the same vibe.

A crowd ready to party

Once everyone made their way into the Ponderosa Room, it became clear this was going to be a fun group.

We always start the reception by welcoming the crowd and encouraging engagement, and this room gave it right back immediately. Casey and Garrett were introduced to Electric Love, and the energy was instant.

The couple wanted to get to the dance floor quickly, so dinner was streamlined, toasts were kept short, and that gave us nearly three hours of dancing. Most groups can handle two to two and a half hours. It takes the right crowd, and the right pacing, to go longer without burning out.

This crowd absolutely had it.

A packed dance floor built with intention

We opened dancing with December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night), then Dancing Queen since the bride, and honestly everyone right now, loves ABBA.

When we saw the bride’s 95-year-old grandmother on the dance floor, we stayed with a few classics a little longer to let that generation enjoy the moment too. Songs like Superstition kept the family engaged before we gradually layered in 2000s and early 2010s throwbacks for the younger crowd.

That first stretch of dancing was all about keeping the whole family involved. Once that foundation was set, we started pushing the energy higher with house remixes, pop punk, and 2010s female pop club hits.

Some of the biggest moments came from tracks like Dirty Little Secret, a mashup of Mr. Brightside and Ookay’s Thief, Justin Kada’s Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! mashup, Firework vs. Clocks, Timber, and Shipping Up to Boston, which hit especially hard with the strong Irish crowd.

The dance floor never really let up.

The perfect ending, and then an encore

Their final song was All the Small Things, which landed perfectly. But when the song ended, the crowd immediately called for an encore.

So we gave them one.

Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen closed out the night, and everyone went wild. It was the perfect ending to a wedding that felt personal, intentional, and nonstop in the best way.
